SAILENT ACHIEVEMENTS   Agri Biz Idol Camp, May 5-9, 2014

The Agri Biz Idol Camp organized by NAIP at five locations in the country concluded on a successful note at New Delhi on 9th May, 2014. Started on 5th May, 2014 at Hyderabad, the Camps were also conducted at Pune, Coimbatore, Anand and New Delhi. The Agri Biz Idol Camp is an initiative of NAIP to identify, support and encourage young agri-students and entrepreneurs with high potential in business start-ups in agriculture. Information and knowledge sharing, stimulation of private sector participation, agro-technology opportunities through NAIP, Business Incubation opportunities through 22 NAIP BPDs were some of the key areas deliberated upon in the Camp.

Hyderabad (May 5, 2014)

The camp was organized at the National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM). 34 students from NAARM and representatives from five industries took part in the camp. Out of the twelve ideas presented, two best presentations were shortlisted. The two ideas shortlisted are "innovative hyacinth removal device" by Mr. Godasu Narasimhu and Mr. Vasu Dev and "hydroponics based vertical farming" by Ms. Nazhat Kittur and Mr. Shelke Sagar.

Shri S.L. Goswami, Director, NAARM, Dr. Kalpana Sastry, Joint Director, NAARM & PI, BPD-NAARM, Shri Karuppanchetty, COO, ABI-ICRISAT, Brig. Ganeshan from Palle Srujana, Mr. Rakesh Reddy, Director, Vishvawani Management Institute and other eminent persons were present on the occasion.

Pune (May 6, 2014)

The Agri Biz Idol Campo was hosted by Symbiosys International University. Dr. Ranji Gupta, Vice Chancellor, Symbiosis University was the chief guest on the occasion and she addressed the participants and inspired them.  The camp was attended by 48 participants and the main attraction was the presentation round, with tough competition among six ideas. Mr. Joshykumar P.K., student of of CIFE (ICAR), with the idea of ‘Fish Paneer' emerged as the winner, while Raji Ajwani & team with their social innovation model were chosen as runners-up.

Coimbatore (May 7, 2014)

The Camp, organized by the BPD Unit of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University received an overwhelming response with 107 participants. Dr. R. Murugesan, Director (ABD) welcomed the gathering and Dr. K. Ramasamy, Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University presided over the function.

Twenty seven innovative ideas were received and presented on the occasion. 15 agri-students of Ph.D, M.Sc and B.Sc. courses gave the presentation which were evaluated by an eminent  panel  comprising of Dr. K. Alagusundaram, technical expert; Dr. S. Ganesan, management expert ; Dr. R. Murugesan, technical expert, Dr. P. Ramachndra Murthy, business expert and Shri R. Palaneeswar, a successful incubate of DABD.

The first position was bagged by Mr. Khedikar Shrish Yogaraj for the business idea ‘SUNSAAR', while the second position was claimed by the team comprising of V. Ponvizhi Ramya and R. Selastin Antony for the idea ‘Veg Sav'.

Anand (May 8, 2014)

The Business Planning Unit, Anand Agricultural University in association with Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) organized the Camp at IRMA, Anand campus. Apart from MBA students from Anand Agricultural University, IRMA students from Sardar Patel University and MS University also participated in the Camp. Dr. K.B. Katharia , Vice Chancellor(I/c) and Chairman – AAU BPD Units and Mrs. Jeemol Inni, Director, IRMA, Anand were present during the inauguration.

In the technology session, various scientists from AAU gave the students detailed information on their respective technologies. Mr. Haaresh Patel of Kisan Agri Mall , an integrated one stop shop for farmers and a beneficiary of AAU BPDU presented his experiences as an incubate of the BPD Unit in terms of technology transfer support, handholding and mentoring by NAIP.

Seven groups gave presentation of their ideas, out of which two teams from IRMA, one team comprising of Srishti Mishra, Ritika Priyadarshini and Anjali Chaudhary for the idea ‘Organic Gardening' and the second team comprising of Alok Anand, Ratnakar Mahto and Ritesh Pandey for the idea ‘SME Conglomerate' were shortlisted for further presentation in the national level competition at Agribusiness Conclave.

Delhi (May 9, 2014)

Zonal Technology Management & Business Planning & Development Unit (ZTM – BPD), IARI of ICAR hosted the camp which saw an overwhelming participation by 100 business management students. Women, farmers and representatives of agri-industries also participated. Out of the 85 applications received, 20 shortlisted entrepreneurs showcased their agribusiness ventures. Some of the business ideas included mobile based irrigation monitoring system, instant millet breakfast, soil health care, cotton picking machine, mobile based agri extension etc. Two ideas have been selected for presenting during the Agribusiness Conclave slated for 18th and 19th May, 2014.

Shri N. Kannan of Startup to Scaleup, Shri Sairam, MD, Pratishta Group, Ms. Annu Grover, MD, Nurturing Green and Shri Karuppanchetty, COO, ABI-ICRISAT shared with the participants their entrepreneurial journey and the challenges faced.

Dr. H.S. Gupta, Director, IARI, Dr. K.V. Prabhu, Jt. Director (Research), IARI, Dr. K.K.Narayanan, MD, Metahelix, Dr. D. Rama Rao, National Director, NAIP and a host of ICAR officials were present on the occasion.
